How Maine Teacher (state certificate) license verification works

A Teacher (state certificate) in Maine is licensed by the ME Childcare / Teacher Licensing. PrimaryCheck looks the license up live at the board's public verification system (board lookup) by license number, or by name when no number is supplied. The record the board publishes is captured as evidence, hashed, and rendered into a proof PDF.

Fields returned for this board: license_number name business_name owner license_type status temporary_closed status_date times_renewed capacity address phone licensing_specialist licensing_history expires current_license_type documents_url flags.

Board note: childcare_provider via ME-CCLS: DHHS OCFS Children's Licensing and Investigation Services 'Child Care Licensing Details' (gateway.maine.gov/dhhs/childcare-licensing/Default.aspx?id=<program number> → 302 → details.aspx; ASP.NET WebForms behind Imperva, plain httpx works). Prints program number/name, business name, owner name, address, phone, licensing specialist, Program Status (Active/Closed), Temporary Closed, status date, times renewed, Program Type (Family Child Care / Child Care Facility / Nursery School), capacity, Licensing History (approval date, Full/Provisional/Conditional, licensed from/to) and a DocuWare documents link; unknown id → 'No Matching Provider Found'. Number-only: the parent search (search.childcarechoices.me) is an address/ZIP map search with no name field, so name-only claims are insufficient_identifiers. Family Child Care in the claimant's name or the printed Owner Name → verified; organisation otherwise → ambiguous_match; another person's home → discrepancy. Canaries 733998 (Desiree Legassie) and 212381 (The Children's Center - Portland, ambiguous). Rising_Stars_Childcare_Database_Maine_2024 ArcGIS layer is a July-2024 snapshot (stale). Teachers are Maine DOE (not covered).
