Adverse action API
When a report leads you to withdraw an offer or decline a candidate, FCRA §615 requires two notices with a waiting period between them. PrimaryCheck sends both, with the report and Summary of Rights attached, and tracks the clock.
curl -X POST https://api.primarycheck.com/v1/verifications/ver_…/adverse_action \
-H "Authorization: Bearer pc_live_…" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"recipient": {
"email": "amy@example.com"
},
"reason": "License status differs from application",
"waitBusinessDays": 5
}'| Method | Path | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| POST | /v1/verifications/{id}/adverse_action | Send the pre-adverse notice with the report; starts the waiting period. |
| GET | /v1/verifications/{id}/adverse_action | Status: pre_adverse_sent, waiting, final_sent, withdrawn; waitUntil. |
| POST | /v1/verifications/{id}/adverse_action/final | Send the final adverse action notice (refused before waitUntil unless the candidate disputed and the dispute resolved). |
| POST | /v1/verifications/{id}/adverse_action/withdraw | Cancel the process (you hired them, or the dispute corrected the report). |
Adverse action notice contents
- Pre-adverse: the report, the Summary of Rights, how to dispute, the waiting period end date.
- Final: PrimaryCheck's name, address and phone; that PrimaryCheck did not make the decision; the right to a free copy within 60 days and to dispute.
Templates are built from the CFPB model forms. The dashboard shows the same controls on each verification; see FCRA program.
